Viverone Lake

A glacial lake, created during the quaternary era is located 8 km from Palazzo Canavese.

It’s perimeter is 10,5 km and has a maximum depth of about 70 mt.

As well as an important tourist location, the lake is a site of great archaeological interest and declared patrimony of the Unesco “prehistoric houses location around the alps”.

The site, protected from the water at a depth between 2 and 3m, located between Viverone and Azeglio at the border between the provinces of Biella and Turin consists in the lower parts of more than 5000 poles that supported the facilities of a large village with the circular floor plan, approximately 70 mt in diameter that is dating back to the Bronze Age.

A large quantity of finds was found, especially swords, axes, pins and other female ornaments. The finds are kept in the Museum of Antiquities in Turin and the museum of the territory of Biella.

Its bathing water, constantly monitored by the supervisors of ARPA, is perfectly suited for water sports such as swimming, sailing, canoeing, wakeboard, waterski, etc..
